What is Veterinary Acupuncture?

How it Works

Veterinary acupuncture involves the careful insertion of thin needles into specific spots on the animal’s body, which are selected based on their health challenges and what we hope to achieve with treatment. The key aim is to rebalance the energy within a pet’s body.

For pets experiencing issues like back and neck pain, hip dysplasia, or elbow dysplasia, our specialists target areas that will stimulate nerve endings and improve blood flow to aid in recovery.

Benefits for Animals

Through our experience and commitment to animal welfare, we have observed that acupuncture provides a significant alternative for pain relief in animals suffering from conditions like back and neck problems, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia.

It is fascinating to see how integrating veterinary acupuncture with conventional methods can speed up recovery processes and support animals in maintaining a balance of energy throughout their bodies.

Animals receiving such holistic care often show improved mobility and exhibit more vibrant behavior post-treatment compared to those undergoing conventional therapy alone.

What We Offer for Veterinary Acupuncture

Equine Acupuncture

Specialized equine acupuncture services are offered to meet the unique needs of large animals. These issues include back and neck problems as well as SI pain and forelimb lameness, with acupuncture playing a critical role in our comprehensive approach to pain management.

Dr. Garofalo works closely with pet owners to ensure their horses receive top-notch care.

In these pictures is a horse named Custom JD. He is treated with acupuncture weekly for arthritis in his hocks and a chronic lameness issue in his right forelimb. He is an upper middle-aged Quarter Horse gelding that was used for reining and is semi-retired. In some of the pictures, Dr. Garofalo is performing the pre-treatment scan, opening some needles, and placing some needles. The needles in the hoof area are called “Ting Points”. These are powerful points that are at the beginning and/or the end of a meridian. Here you will also see one of our veterinary technicians, Hayley, assisting Dr. Garofalo with JD’s acupuncture and removing a needle. Chinese herbs may also be used to treat certain conditions in animals.

Small Animal Acupuncture

Our expert veterinarian employs this ancient technique to help manage conditions like hip dysplasia in dogs and elbow dysplasia in dogs and cats. By inserting fine needles into specific points on your pet’s body, we aim to restore energy balance and promote healing.

We have seen remarkable improvements in pets suffering from various ailments, including back and neck problems through veterinary acupuncture.

Exotic Animal Acupuncture

Our specialized veterinary team extends our acupuncture services to include exotic animals. Dr. Garofalo brings a wealth of knowledge in veterinary acupuncture to address various health issues in reptiles, birds, and other non-traditional pets.

Our approach uses this method as part of a holistic strategy aimed at relieving pain and enhancing the overall quality of life for these special animals.

Acupuncture can indeed be applied to chickens, including Cornish cross hens like “Cassie.” In poultry, acupuncture is used to address various health issues and promote well-being. It is typically administered by a veterinarian who specializes in avian medicine or has training in veterinary acupuncture.

Why choose our Veterinary Acupuncture?

Alternative and Holistic Approach

Embracing a holistic and alternative approach to pet health care, our team integrates veterinary acupuncture with traditional treatment methods. The commitment here goes beyond just treating symptoms; it is about striving for overall well-being.

Non-Invasive Treatment

We ensure our veterinary animal acupuncture services offer a gentle, non-invasive treatment option for your pets. Unlike traditional surgical procedures that can be stressful and require recovery time, acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and pain relief.

Support for Overall Health and Wellness

At our clinic, there is a strong belief in the effectiveness of veterinary acupuncture for targeting specific health issues and enhancing the general wellness of pets. This ancient Chinese veterinary medicine practice is used to treat a range of conditions, including back and neck problems, behavior issues, allergies, DJD/OA, and many others in both dogs and cats.

This proactive approach reflects our practice’s dedication to guaranteeing every animal enjoys a long life characterized by vitality and freedom from pain.
